The limit fixed in the preceding

article for Hongkong 1s a definite one and

no provision is made for its relaxation;

however it is understood that in Macau

power will be retained to increase the number of chests of raw opium imported each year and destined for exportation, provided

that proof is given that the Buld imports are destined to meet the requirements of lawful

trade. For this purpose the farmer shall produce to the Governor of Macau customa certificates passed by the authorities of countries importing the opium stating that the quantities kuthorised are required for

legitimate purposes, or & about the 240 chests referred to in para II

VI. The Governor of Macall will have

power to grant licences under the preceding article for the importation of the quantizid
